Mst. Noor-E-Elis Aktar Jahan is an accomplished academic, researcher, and literary writer in the field of Bangla literature. She is currently serving as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Bangla at North Bengal International University, Rajshahi. She has obtained her PhD in Bangla from the University of Rajshahi in 2010, following her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Bangla from the same university.
Jahan has developed her academic career through teaching, research, literary criticism, and creative writing. Her areas of academic interest include ancient and medieval Bangla poetry, modern poetry, novels, drama, short stories, and literary criticism. Her research has particularly addressed the representation of the Liberation War, women, social class, and language in Bangla literature. Alongside her academic contributions, Jahan has published poetry and short stories, including the poetry collection Ghumhin Rater Ghran (The Fragrance of Sleepless Nights), and the short stories collection Harina Boiri ( Deer-like Enemy). Her short stories have appeared in several edited literary collections, including Nampenh to Michigan and Tobu Porobashi. She has also contributed travel writing, autobiographical pieces, and literary essays to various publications.
Jahan has contributed to the literary and cultural community of Rajshahi through her involvement with organisations such as the Bangladesh Lekhika Sangha, Rajshahi, and the Sanskriti Charcha Kendra. She is also associated with the Bangla Department Alumni Association of the University of Rajshahi and the Folklore Society of the university.
Abstract
In the horizon of Bengali short stories Bonoful (Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay, 1899-1979) takes a distinctive and special place. His understanding of life and society allowed him to show the deep and fundamental laws of human life on the pages of his works. Different aspects of human life, despite the seeming simplicity and brevity of the story, are folded in it in a multi-layered way. Social, political, historical, mythological, anthropological, scientific, astrological, poetic, philosophical, psychological, and ethical aspects can be noticed in his stories. The ability to depict life in all its facets, to understand its multiplicity, is wittily combined in his works with an analysis of many aspects of human life. The author’s attempts to reveal the unique features of the selected stories and the analysis of their nature are the subject of the present article.
